Maps

The dealer locator (the dealers module) shows dealers on a map, drawn with Leaflet. The map's code loads in the visitor's browser only when a map scrolls into view.

The tile server #

The background map comes from a tile server, chosen by an admin in Site settings → Maps:

ChoiceWhat it does
OpenStreetMap (the default)OpenStreetMap's own tiles, credited "© OpenStreetMap contributors" in the visitor's language. Free for light use, under OpenStreetMap's tile usage policy.
Another tile serverAny server with an https address holding {z}, {x} and {y}, with its own credit, credit link and closest zoom (1 to 22, 18 by default). A custom server without a usable address shows no tiles rather than falling back to another.
NoneMarkers only.

Visitors' browsers load the tiles straight from that server. For a busy site, use a commercial tile service or a server of your own.

Turning tiles off #

MAP_TILES=off in the environment draws markers only, whatever Site settings say, and no visitor's browser asks a tile server. The end-to-end tests set it, so they never depend on the internet; it also suits a copy of the site without internet access.

These guides ship with Tolk Starter 0.6.0: buyers get the same pages in their repository, next to the code they describe.
